I LOVE CRAB THEORY!

Ella Mae Lentz gave a presentation about the crab theory at National Association Deaf in Palm Desert, CA during the summer of 2006. I saw this video on Joey’s Vlog that got me truly inspired. Her theory had been on my mind since two summers ago of 2006. Last summer of 2007, I created a story little by little until recently this story became completed through my experiences in Deaf and ASL bvlog sphere.

Wait a minute.. I LOVE DEAL CRAB THEORY!

I am sure you saw alot of that crab theory happening as you surf over them on your board. But did you help them by reaching down your leg and toes in the water so they could clamp on your big toe to be pulled up. It hurts, but resolves the crab theory. Chuckling.

    Nice story regardless.

Very good analogy. Couldn’t stop comparing your story to many of my personal experiences, as well!

Excellent new addition to our Deaf/ASL literature masterpiece! The bottom line, the crab theory slows down our progress. Sadly, I see a lot of that among DeafRead v/bloggers and commenters.

Your story fits my recent thoughts about those who are “holding” us down via crab theory. The best thing to do is just move on and let those decide for themselves whether they want to catch up with us and join us or they can stay down there bickering with each other.

Congratulations, this video clip is added to my favorite single post for 2008 :-)

  7. ChrisH says:

will Paotie and Mike agree with your comment if they are crabs?

  8. Deb Ann says:

Very good analogy! I love the way you gesture in ASL! yOu RoCk!

  9. Seek Geo says:

    Great video! I loved it.

There is one thing I am very concerned about though that some certain people who kept saying crab theory is bad but yet they are playing like one.

That’s what I call “double standards”, I guess that’s how the world is.

I look forward to meet you one of these days because for one, you are rock! :-D

I say, they have moved ahead. They are progressive thinkers. Encourage Diversity in DeafRead and stay united for one cause, equality and access for all!

We NEED thinkers of diverse backgrounds and ALL is good.

    Let’s move ahead!

  11. Sally says:

    Seek Geo,

Crab theory means pulling down people that want to succeed helping people or improve something.

There is no “double standards” about other people that try to stop deficit thinking(negative) people that pulls down positive-minded leaders.

    Sally

  12. Terri Watts (GalaxyAngelz) says:

Wonderful your comment issued “Crab Theory”
    Really extreme make sense!

  13. Seek Geo says:

    Sally,

I know what it means, what I meant is that there are some people said about trying to get rid of crab theory but yet they are playing like one.

That’s why I said “double standards” because they say one thing but yet they are doing it.

    -SG

  14. Deb Ann says:

Seek Geo is right about double standards that mean…the person tries to get rid of their crab theory but he is still doing it to them.

  15. Seek Geo says:

It’s like saying it is bad to eat apples to everyone but yet behind their backs, that person eats an apple.

  16. Sally says:

    Deb Ann and Seek Geo,

Yes, I understand in general about crab theory and people don’t do what they preach.
But are you talking about in general society or some deaf people in the community such as Mike McConnell and Paotie?

    Sally

  17. Seek Geo says:

    Sally,

I’d prefer not naming names but let’s say in general there are some people don’t do what they preach. :-)

What a beautiful creative poetry! I like your new style blogsite and video. :-)

I first learn about the Crab Theory when I enter DeafRead. I’ve been thought, anaylsis and understanding a concept of the Crab Theory in what’s true meaning to apply in our Deaf Community. The more I understand better every a bit to bit.

Thanks for a value of educating.

  30. Toby Welch says:

Jon! Your vlog is very clearly explanation about DEAL rather than love or hate. All of us need to focus on deal with each other rather than a individual.

  31. Alex Wilhite says:

Crab Theory is damn truth as heavy fact in this deaf community from my experience so that I had to leave from Deaf Community by climbed over from crab theory to successful then return and educate them not act like crab theory that is very low culture and create in good diversity.

  32. Alex Wilhite says:

you did awesome job to educate what is crab theory that is very truthfulness!

  33. Mercy says:

Whoa! This is an amazing story and you signed it so well. Unfortunately it’s not a new concept. It happens with many minority groups.

  34. DonG. says:

    Jon,

I just now saw this story. Great job. I think you make a good point in part — the crabs should let those who can get out, get out. But those who got out must not forget those who are still stuck inside. They must not forget who they are and help those who are still stuck to get out too. Then all the crabs can swim in the ocean, happy and free.

    –Don G.
