Hello.

Lately, I have been thinking about three things that bother me so much. Three things: Story from friends, News (Media), and vlog & blogoshpere. As well, I don’t want to give specific details of deaf owner because I respect their privacy, they already have shared their experiences, and/or their stories are copyrighted.

Now, my thoughts are to share with you about a deaf who owns a business. He/she tries to fit in society in the world where the businesses are that depend on English through speaking even though a Deaf people can show their English literacy.

If this story seems to be familiar to you about a specific person that you might know. My story is here to tell by several pieces of stories that I put together to share this with you.

A Deaf person establishes a new company to produce something that anyone can purchase. Often, a new company is tough to run however a conference could offer to anyone who they would like to learn how to run business better. For example; time management, less expenses/more profits, and improvement. A Deaf person is ready to learn but the conference is offering to speak more in English than literacy!

The conference isn’t interested to provide an ASL interpreter because the interpreter agency is too expensive! The conference might be aware of the law to require to provide one however they choose to not to follow the procedure! The Deaf person’s friend recommends to contact to an association and/or any Deaf community. The Deaf decides to hire an interpreter then bill to the conference. The conference refuses to pay then the association procrastinates to help the deaf with the law. After the conference being done, the deaf still have to face with the situation with the association and the conference about the interpreting issues.

The Deaf person is learning a lot from the conference and wants to invest to improve the business. However, he/she has to deal with the pain by having debts to pay for the interpreting services. The Deaf person wants to go to the conference again to learn the with excellent keynotes but the problem is he/she have to pay off the credit card first! The Deaf person would have to miss the conference.

What is the solution? How can a Deaf person could be motivated to establish a company? People can have positive thoughts and encourage themselves to make it happen!

Hello you all!

I would like to make a brief vlog and here’s the flyer that I have in my hands. It’s a play called “Nobody’s Perfect” based on a book written by Marlee Matlin. She is a deaf actress from TV shows and several movies.

The play is going to be interesting since there will be hearing and deaf actors perform simultaneously in spoken English and ASL. I’m wondering if they will be speaking English and signing ASL simultaneously. Or will there be each actor using spoken English and sign ASL simultaneously or the each actor will speak English and another actor sign in ASL.

I will go to the play and find out how it goes. I’m in contact with the marketing director at Poway Performing Arts Center and plan to set up an interview with the cast. I will be asking them questions about their deaf community and how all the actors fit in the play.

It’s amazing that we will be having a play here in the suburbs of San Diego County called Poway which it is my home only few miles away. Other people who live in the city and they would have to drive all the way here. It’s not often that we don’t get deaf plays here in this city.

Hello everyone!

Some of you watch food network channel or any food TV shows like Top Chef from Bravo channel. Top chefs usually focus on gourmet foods and creative dishes that we tend to drool over. I have something a lot better than this. Last Friday evening (2/12/10), Holly and I went out for a pre-Valentine dinner and we attended to a special event at a catering company. Imagine this, you are watching a food channel TV show watching top chefs making delicious gourmet foods then all of sudden you are in the TV show and you are sitting there tasting 4 courses with different wines for each course.

There were two different people at the event to explain about the food dishes and wines, one was the chef and one was the wine connoisseur. The event had about 60 people and it was varied from friends to business people. Their quality service was a huge success.

Reason why I’m emphasizing about this event, this catering company is called Feast on This and it’s owned by a deaf chef, Matthew Baker. He has been running the company for 10 years and his dishes have improved much more. He tends to look for new recipes and sauces to put them together beautifully. He just started a new project to put the dishes together with, what? Wine!! His company found a wine connoisseur few months ago.

The event only had 7 deaf people and the rest were hearing people. WOW!! I don’t know how Matthew put up with this being deaf because I’m deaf too. The event provided an ASL interpreter to interpret what Matthew explained about his food dishes and for the wine connoisseur, he explained how the wines go with the food dishes.

Small percent of the sales that the event earned will go to Haiti deaf children who they survived earthquake. Feast on This will host special events like this one every 3 months. If you are interested, go check out the website and you can always speak with the chef in ASL!!
